The Increasing Complexity of Web Marketing
As you may or may not know, my team manages web marketing for almost 50 clients. We have systematic processes for much of what we do, but we also employ some secret sauces – yes, more than one – to get the results we do. And rather than hide the secret sauce, I’ll openly admit what they are.
We Put In The Hours
Nothing magical in this. But most people don’t want to spend the time required to create the result they are desiring.
The complexity of the web is such that there are no simple formulas for success. It takes an expert to constantly do things – not once – but on an ongoing, never-ending basis. So, our first secret sauce is we work hard at it.
We Study Relentlessly
We are not so arrogant as to believe we have the right formula. What we do works, but the world we work in never stops changing and evolving. The Google algorithm, the Bing-Yahoo search merger, the bizarre world of Local search and Maps… all these things cause us to have to keep our wits about us. So we study what others are doing, what the experts are saying, what the trends illuminate and how that impacts what we do.
To live within the increasingly complex world of web marketing, you can’t afford to be negligent in this area.
We Test and Try Things
Gone are the days when you could build a site and leave it… set a monthly PPC budget and ignore it… get listed on Google Local and feel like you’ve made it. You have to keep doing things. Trying them, testing to see if it improved the result or diminished it. There is no failure in this complexity… there are only discoveries of what works and what doesn’t.
This is one of my favorite sauces.
